Royal Mail, Evri and DPD scam texts

A text says a parcel couldn't be delivered, is held for a small fee or needs your address confirmed, and links to a copy of the courier's site. The fee is a pretext to collect your card details. Some versions push a fake tracking app, which the NCSC says is malware.

What it looks like

  • A missed, held or “undeliverable” parcel, often with a tracking number you don't recognise
  • A small redelivery, shipping or customs fee (commonly £1–£3) payable through a link
  • “Your address is incomplete” or “confirm your details”
  • A link that isn't royalmail.com, evri.com or dpd.co.uk, often a new domain with a cheap ending like .top or .xyz
  • “Reply Y, then reopen this message to activate the link”
  • Follow-up calls from a “courier” or “your bank” a day or two later, using the details you typed in

What the real organisations say

  • “In cases where customers need to pay a surcharge for an underpaid item, we would let them know by leaving a grey Fee To Pay card. We would not request payment by email or text.”

  • “The only time we would ask customers to make a payment by email or by SMS is in instances where a customs fee is due.”

  • “Will NEVER ask you to reschedule a delivery or ask for payment to do so. We attempt all deliveries up to 3 times.”

  • “SMS messages will only come from 'Evri' and not a mobile phone number.”

  • “DPD will never ask you to pay a “redelivery fee” via a link in an email, text or iMessage.”

  • “We only use www.dpd.co.uk, www.dpdlocal.co.uk, or www.dpdgroup.co.uk.”

Evri 'parcel held' call — asked for card details

Royal Mail, Evri and DPD texts: FAQs

Does Royal Mail text you to pay a redelivery fee?

No. Royal Mail says it would not request payment by email or text for an underpaid item; it leaves a grey Fee To Pay card. The one exception is a customs fee, and then it links only to the Royal Mail Fee to Pay site and also leaves a card.

How do I know if an Evri text is genuine?

Evri says genuine texts come from “Evri”, not a mobile number, never ask for payment and only ever contain a tracking link. It attempts deliveries up to three times and never asks you to pay to reschedule.

Which websites does DPD use?

DPD says it only uses www.dpd.co.uk, www.dpdlocal.co.uk and www.dpdgroup.co.uk, and never asks for a redelivery fee through a link in a text, email or iMessage.

I clicked the link but didn't enter anything. Am I at risk?

Opening the page alone is low risk. If you installed an app from it, the NCSC advises a factory reset. If you entered card details, call your bank straight away on 159 or the number on your card.

Where do I report a fake parcel text?

Forward it to 7726 (free on UK networks). You can also send a screenshot to Royal Mail at reportascam@royalmail.com, and report the website to the NCSC.
