UK geographic area codes — the prefixes that begin 01, 02 and a small number of legacy mixed codes — are administered by Ofcom under the National Telephone Numbering Plan. Each code anchors on a principal town and reaches across the surrounding charging area; for the larger metropolitan codes (020 London, 0121 Birmingham, 0161 Manchester) the catchment can extend tens of miles. Below, every currently-published code is listed by region, with the principal town shown next to the digits. Click through to a code page to see the live Ofcom range allocations, the wholesale Range Holders assigned to each block, and a per-area reverse-lookup form.

UK numbering is structured by family rather than by location: 01 and 02 codes are geographic (anchored to a town), 03 codes are non-geographic at landline rates, 07 codes are mobile or personal-numbering, 08 codes are freephone or service, and 09 codes are premium-rate. This index covers the geographic 01/02 ranges only. For non-geographic prefixes, see the popular non-geographic prefixes on the homepage. For the editorial overview of the entire UK numbering plan, see How Ofcom allocates UK phone numbers.

A geographic code does not guarantee that the caller is physically in the named town. UK number portability lets a customer keep their dialling code after moving anywhere in the UK, and business contact-centres frequently provision regional CLIs to look local on caller ID. The Range Holder shown on a code page is the wholesale carrier the block was issued to at allocation, which is the strongest free public signal for narrowing down the actual caller — but the live carrier and end-user can have changed since allocation. To identify a specific number, paste the digits into the lookup form on the homepage; the result page combines the structured Ofcom data with a live AI internet check that pulls public reports from forums, scam-reporting databases and business directory listings.
