HSBC fraud team called from 0203 — genuine?

0203 isn't a normal HSBC prefix in my experience (they usually use 0345). The Range Holder lookup on this site says the block is allocated to a wholesale SIP provider, not HSBC directly.

Does that prove it's a scam? Not on its own — HSBC's call-centres could route via a SIP wholesaler. But the line type mismatch plus the absence of any HSBC reference number in their script is enough for me to be suspicious. Dialling 159 now.

0203 calls do not usually come from HSBC. The published HSBC fraud line is 03457 404 404. If you've already engaged and given any details, dial 159 immediately. If the caller pushed back when you suggested ringing 159, that's an even bigger red flag.
