Parcel and courier scams

Royal Mail, Evri, DHL, DPD, Yodel re-delivery fee texts and follow-up calls. Couriers never collect re-delivery fees by phone.

What to look for in this category

Parcel-courier scams (Royal Mail “redelivery fee”, Evri “parcel held”, DHL “customs charge”) are by volume the single most common UK phone-and-SMS scam category. The text or call typically asks for a small payment (£1–£3) to release a parcel — the real harvest is the card details and address, which then get used in larger fraud weeks later.

Tell-tale signs

  • Surprise about a parcel you didn’t order, or one you can’t remember
  • A very small fee (under £5) demanded urgently
  • Link points to a lookalike domain (royalmail-redeliveryuk.com vs the real royalmail.com)
  • Asks for date of birth alongside payment details

What to do right now

Don’t click the link. If you’re genuinely expecting something, go directly to the courier’s tracking page using the link in their confirmation email or app — never via SMS.

Where to report it

Forward the text to 7726 (free on every UK network). For Royal Mail specifically: report@royalmail.com. For Evri / DHL: their websites have dedicated “report a scam” forms.

Guidance is general — not legal or financial advice. If you have lost money, contact your bank immediately and report to Action Fraud (or Police Scotland on 101).
